The Company where the internship assignment is carried out is Power-Packer B.V., further in this report as Power-Packer. Power-Packer is market leader in the motion control and is located in France, Turkey, India, China, Brazil, Mexico, the United States and the headquarters is located in the Netherlands in Oldenzaal. Worldwide Power-Packer has over 1.000 employees. Power-Packer supplies products in several sectors: Automotive-, truck-, medical- and the off-highway sector. Power-Packer applies specialized high-quality products for these sectors. Power-Packer is specialized in customized solutions for mobile applications, like the production and development of (electric)-hydraulic drive systems for convertible roofs and lifting truck cabins.
The assignment is carried out for the engineering department in the automotive sector. Hydraulic systems are developed for several applications within the car environment, in particular convertible roof tops. The tasks and activities of this department are to develop products for the automotive sector.
Over the last years a new hydraulic pump-unit (so called 3FS) is developed to meet the increasing market demands in terms of package, noise and cost. First production car with this system is the Aston-Martin DB11 convertible to open and close the convertible roof including the tonneau cover. The internship is about a specific function in this 3FS unit to improve.
Main tasks & Responsibilities:
The assignment consist of an evaluation and improvement of the current design pressure relief valve in the 3FS pump-unit. This valve is limiting the forces in the system when a cylinder movement is blocked or at its end during convertible top movement on a car. The current design has some imperfections and disadvantages which have to be re-evaluated and redesigned. Some aspects to focus on are:
- Mounting without screw thread;
- Lower cost design;
- Adjustment pressure setting optimization;
- No change in functionality performance;
- Suitable for current design lay-out 3FS system;
- The assignment will contain theoretically, designing and practically activities.
What do we expect from you?
- HBO graduate student with technical background (Technical Engineering);
- 40 hours per week available;
- Experience with working in SolidWorks;
- Good knowledge of the English and Dutch language.
